Eckhart von Hochheim

Eckhart von Hochheim (c. 1260–c. 1328), commonly known as Meister Eckhart, was a German Dominican preacher, theologian, and writer. He studied and taught theology in Paris and held several positions of leadership within the Dominican Order. He became widely known for his preaching and for writings concerning God, the inner Christian life, and the relationship of the soul to God. Near the end of his life, some of his teachings became the subject of ecclesiastical proceedings concerning allegations of heresy. His works, written in Latin and Middle High German, have continued to be read and discussed for centuries.
